  • Ideally, news stories about boring topics would be made much more interesting: compare treatment of politics in Julius Caesar to many political reports
  • Most celebrity news is pointless, but the fascination with celebrity could be productively redirected into a set of genuinely worthy secular “patron saints”
  • Reporting on serious crimes and similar tragedies could have a moral instruction element that is currently lacking
